Bringing a drone to Iceland

One of the things I love the most about drone photography, is the fact that it can give entirely new perspectives, to otherwise well photographed locations. Let’s face it. Iceland is probably one of the most photographed countries in the world. People flock here in masses to drive around the land of fire and ice. And it’s absolutely stunning. I find myself constantly returning, and just recently came back after my fifth visit. In this post, I will talk about what made my last two visits so special.

Bringing a drone to Iceland

It’s only been a few years since I bought my first drone. I hesitated for a long time, as I simply loved photographing with my camera, and I was afraid a drone would take some of this love away. I enjoyed waking up early to go on a hike in order to reach my photography location for sunrise. Luckily, acquiring a drone hasn’t taken any of this away, even though it has in some ways made my life a lot easier. However, this article is about bringing a drone to Iceland, and why I believe every photographer should do so. Iceland has been photographed over and over again. Most people visiting, normally do the same route of the country, and often miss the best part. For me, the highlands of Iceland is the number one reason to visit. The landscapes here are so diverse, and so incredible beautiful. You will experience rainbow colored mountains, mountains fully covered in moss, and in general, landscapes you would think only existed on other planets.

However what baffles me the most is the fact that most people seem to neglect the highlands. Flying a drone in the highlands will take your Iceland portfolio to the next level. Seeing the highlands from a birds eye perspective is where you will discover the real beauty of it. It is so untouched, and you will realise that the moment you put your drone in the air. People tend to only visit the same locations, but moving just a few kilometres away from the most popular route is where you will set yourself apart. And that is what you are able to do with a drone. Having the possibility to put your drone up and use it to scout out new locations is completely game changing. Some of the most beautiful photos you will see from Iceland are taken with a drone, and these are the photos that attract people to the country.

I believe that my drone has taken my photography to new heights, and no place is that more apparent than in Iceland.
