Trekking the Peruvian Andes

1,5 years ago I spent a few days trekking in the Peruvian Andes region. Everyday I found myself surrounded by giants, crystal blue lakes and more alpacas than I could count. I walked among mountain villages, ascended steep mountain passes, and slept under millions of stars. Below are some of the photos I captured during my trip. To say that it was life changing might seem like an over statement. It is not. This trip made me fall in love with hiking, with the mountains, the wildlife, the local villagers and everything in between.

This incredible scene was located just at our first campsite. This is without a doubt one of the most stunning landscapes I have ever seen. I love how the river leads of to the mountain, creating a perfect leading line. As soon as the sun set the stars started coming out, and before dinner was over, the milky way was out in its full glory. I don’t think I have ever had dinner in a place as beautiful as this.

Everywhere you go, you will come across friendly faces. Whether it be local villagers or these beautiful alpacas. I was surprised at how many people we crossed along the way. Especially the first two days. To think that people actually live up here is amazing. Then again, just imagine waking up to these views everyday! Wow. The views we had along they way were just incredible. I can’t even put it into words.

I still remember the first time I saw these rainbow colored mountains in Instagram. I just couldn’t believe the photos were real. How could something be so beautiful and be such a “well kept secret”? I certainly hadn’t seen social media overflooded with photos of the rainbow mountains at the time. I decided to find out myself if the photos were real enough. Turns out they were. And let me tell you this. It’s much more beautiful seeing the places in person, than in photos.

The entire trek ended with a visit for sunrise at the incredible Rainbow mountain. Its amazing how the colors seem to change, depending on where the sun is in the sky. I was the first person to arrive and just sad and marveled at the amazing scenery for what felt like hours. Once the tourists started to arrive, the sun was already high in the sky, and the most beautiful moments had disappeared. No matter the time of day though, this is an absolutely incredible place.

It’s already in the books for a return trip. The only question is when.
