My travel photography bucket list
Like most people I have an almost endless amount of destinations I want to visit. A bucket list made up of places I would love to explore and photograph. They stretch almost over the entire world. South America, Asia, Africa, and North America. However I also have more specific photography goals I would like to achieve. Goals that I have to take on, and make a reality. Here follows some of the things on my travel photography bucket list.
Patagonia
Patagonia will always be the one that got away. On two occasions I have been supposed to visit and on both, it didn’t materialize. It will happen eventually though. I can’t wait to to finally be able to hike among these giants, and photograph the stunning mountain scenery. I have a lot of plans already for photos, and it will be amazing once it finally happens.
Pakistan
As with Patagonia, I was supposed to have visited Pakistan already. However unforeseen circumstances put a stop to that. There is something about Pakistan though. Something that draws me to visit. I don’t know whether it’s the old cities, the locals, or the mountains. I guess it’s a combination of all. One thing I know for sure is that I would love to visit, and capture some beautiful moments.
Bolivia
There is so much more to Bolivia than what we normally see. Bolivia is not just Lake Titicaca, the Salt Flats and La Paz. It is so much more than that. It’s mountains, volcanoes and rain forest. Once I visit Bolivia, I will try to showcase all of this. From extensive research I have found some incredible places in Bolivia, that I can’t wait to visit.
Mongolia
From what I have seen online, Mongolia is absolutely incredible. The landscapes there are completely extraordinary, and there is so much diversity. I would love to be able to get a car and tour around the country. Or even better, have a group of other photographers join me, when doing so. Mongolia is a dream destination, and hopefully I will be able to visit some time. It contains everything from mountains, deserts and open grasslands. There are so many opportunities when it comes to photography.
Rural China
Having already visited China twice, I feel like I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface. For photography, China is unlike anywhere else. There is so much diversity its incredible. You will have completely different experiences if you visit the north, south, east, west and the middle. You can travel just a few hours and see something completely new. Though China can be a challenge to travel on your own, I would love to go back and spend a few months photographing the country and especially rural China.
Indonesia
Indonesia is just unique. I can’t believe I have never gone back since I left in October 2018. It’s something I have wanted to do, almost ever since I left. The landscapes in Indonesia are well known, but still, I would love to photograph even more of this magnificent country. The waterfalls, volcanoes, beaches and locals. Indonesia has so much to offer, and I found it to be a very easy country to travel around. Besides, every island offers something different. Yes Bali is very touristy (before covid) but there is a reason that it is. If one travels outside of Bali, there will be much less tourism experienced. Bali is simply stunning though, and I will definitely visit again when I go back.
India
Though I’m sitting in India as I write this, as with China I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface, even though I have visited three times. India is a country unlike any other. A country that makes me fall in love with street photography, even though it is one of the most difficult genres of photography to me. Simply walking around the streets there are so much happening. So many interesting scenes unfolding in front of your eyes. Besides from this, the landscapes in India are extremely beautiful. From the mountains in the north to the beaches and the backwaters in the South. From the colorful cities filled with forts in Rajasthan, to the impeccable Taj Mahal in Agra. India has something for everyone and it is a place I have fallen in love with.
Africa in general
I can’t believe that I have only visited two countries in Africa, and still, been in Africa a total of seven times. There are so many more places in Africa I want to experience. Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Egypt. And so many more. I feel that Africa is still so untouched from tourism, and I would love to be able to visit some of these countries. The safaris, beaches, historical landmarks. The continent of Africa has so much to offer.
Tajikistan
Tajikistan is a country that often came to my attention recently, as I started researching Central Asia. The mountains there seem absolutely incredible and everything seems to be so untouched. I would love to be able to do a road trip starting around the border to Kyrgyzstan, and visit the most beautiful viewpoints along the way to the capital. It is also a country where I’m planning on eventually running photography tours.
Bangladesh
I don’t know what it is that keeps drawing Bangladesh to my attention. Probably the same as with India and Pakistan. The locals, the fact that it is so untouched, and the beautiful nature. Bangladesh is a country that doesn’t see a lot of western tourists, but from what I have seen online I don’t understand why. Bangladesh seems to have so much to offer, and I hope to be able to visit some time.
Andes mountains in Peru
Ever since I left Peru I have wanted to come back. I loved my time in Peru, but after researching the country even more, I realized how much I missed out on. On my last visit, I mainly visited the major tourist sites, and then added a trip to the Ausangate as well. First off, I would love to explore that region even more thoroughly. It has so much to offer. I would also love to explore the rainforest, hit up some of the waterfalls and do multiple hikes in the Huaraz region. Seems to be one of the most amazing places on the continent.
Magazine feature
I guess this is a dream for all photographers. Not that I’m doing any work actively to make it happen, but being able to see my work featured in a magazine could be so cool. Just to be hopefully to inspire one person through my photos would be amazing.
Establish and run photography tours
At some level, I already have a few photography tours established. Not just at some level, I have. And it excites me, I must admit that. I can’t believe how much I have grown over the past couple of years. Simply the fact that people want to go on a tour, and learn from me amazes me. This is what I have been working towards ever since I started with photography. To be able to share my knowledge and help people improve. It is an amazing feeling, and I cant wait with going on that first tour. I’m absolutely buzzing.
These were a few of the items on my travel photography bucket list, of course there are many more, but those are the ones on top. What’s on yours?
