My favorite places in the world
Over the past years I have been lucky enough to live my dream, and explore huge parts of the world. I have never had the dream of visiting every country of the world. Once I find a place that I enjoy I want to spend as much time there as possible, and experience as much as I can. I have “only” visited 38 countries as of writing this, but that’s because I tend to go back and revisit the same places over and over again. I have been to five of the worlds continents and had amazing experiences in each place. In this post I will talk about my favorite places in the world, in no particular order.
Cape Town
I absolutely love Cape Town. Over the past years I have visited four times and spent over nine months in the mothercity, as the locals call it. To me, Cape Town feels like a country on its own. There is so much diversity. You will find everything from mountains to beaches. Beautiful hikes. Incredible viewpoints. Desert. Bustling city life. And so much more. I will never grow tired of visiting Cape Town, as every day brings something new and exciting.
Iceland
The land of fire and ice. Another place I keep revisiting. Iceland has so much to offer. The highland in Iceland has mystique around it. There is so much that is still unexplored. And so much beauty. Some of the most beautiful places in Iceland are found in the highlands. There are active volcanoes, countless waterfalls, mountains, canyons and black sand beaches. Iceland is a photographers paradise.
Rio De Janeiro
I dont even know where to start with this incredible city. Rio took my breath away. Having initially planned to stay for six days during my trip through South America, I ended up staying for two months. Safe to say that I fell in love with Rio. Exactly what made me feel this way, I don’t know. I think it was everything from walking around the streets, greeting the locals, to hiking up nearby viewpoints, or riding a helicopter over the city. It was about relaxing at the beach by day, and partying during the night. There was constantly something going on, and Rio is certainly a city I could see myself move to some time in the future.
Peru
If there is one country on this list that took me by surprise, it has got to be Peru. Rarely have I been as amazed as I was when hiking around the Peruvian Andes region. It was a truly special feeling, being surrounded by snow capped mountains on each side. Once in a while we would come across red or multicolored mountains and alpacas grassing on the hillside. We would pass small mountain villages and sleep beneath the milky way. Besides from the mountains, Peru has the rainforest, desert, volcanoes and beautiful cities. I can’t wait to get back to Peru.
Indonesia
The land of thousands of islands but just a few frequented by tourists. I can’t believe what might lay hidden on some of the Indonesian islands, when there is so much beauty on the few islands posted online. I have only been to four of the Indonesian islands, and was blown away by what I experienced. I don’t think I have ever experienced as much beauty on a daily basis as I did in Bali. A relatively small island, but incredibly beautiful. There is a reason that tourist flock there in masses, I will do so again as well within too long.
China
China is one of those countries that has a certain mystique around it. As a photography destination, China is certainly one of my favorite places in the world. It has everything one can imagine. Rice terraces, mountains, rural villages, cityscapes and so much more. Once you really start digging in to photography destinations in China, you will find that there is so much beauty, and so much that is still unexplored.
India
There is something special about India. Something that keeps pulling me. I have visited three times, and still find myself planning another visit to go back. I don’t know what it is. If it is the friendly locals, the delicious food, the slow travel, the amazing sights. I guess it’s everything combined. I have had some of my best travel experiences in India, and I have barely scratched the surface. There is so much I still want to explore, so much diversity.
Kyrgyzstan
Exploring Kyrgyzstan was a dream. I have rarely felt so good on a trip, as I did when I was in Kyrgyzstan. It is not often that I go on group tours where everything is planned, but I did here, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. It is a country I’m dreaming to go back to, and one where I’m planning a photography trip as well. This beautiful country is packed with mountains, beautiful lakes, and amazing people.
Dolomites
Nestled in the north of Italy, the Dolomites is one of my favorite areas in the world. Packed with stunning mountains and beautiful lakes, the Dolomites is a landscape photographers dream. It is super easy to get around the area, as long as you have a vehicle.
Japan
How I love Japan. Not only as a photography destination, but the entire experience. Japan has some of the friendliest people I have come across on my travels. To me, the people I meet on my trips around the world, are some of the most important factors, when visiting a new place. Besides from the people though, Japan is extremely beautiful. There is so much to photograph, and especially places such as Kyoto, Tokyo and the area around Mount Fuji blew me away. Japan is one of the best travel destinations in the world.
That’s a wrap then. Narrowing it down to 10 destinations was extremely difficult, as there are simply so many places I could have added.
