How to spend a week in quarantine
Thanks to the ongoing pandemic, facing a quarantine is becoming very real. That being for people that still want to see the world, people that actually get hit by covid, or in some cases people that have been in close contact. As annoying that it is, to be in quarantine when traveling, even after testing negative, I completely get the point. All countries face the disease, and keeping down the daily cases is high priority in almost every country. In this post I’m going to talk about how to spend a week in quarantine. As I visited India, I had to be quarantined for a week. Though the prospect of being confined to a 30 squaremeter room for seven days frightened me a bit I took measured to ensure that I came through with high spirits.
First coffee
It might sound weird, but being able to have coffee first thing in the morning, and in some cases continuing through out the day, made my stay bearable. Due to jetlag, in the beginning I didn’t feel like leaving my bed, and was only able to do so after having coffee. It’s an addiction, I know. However leaving the bed in the morning to have my coffee, also ensured that I would continue doing my tasks throughout the day. I know that many people don’t need coffee in the morning and I envy you.
Create a plan
For some this might seem like a silly thing, as a quarantine is the perfect time to relax, however for me, it was the complete opposite. I knew that if I stayed in bed all day, I would keep doing so, just watching Netflix or scrolling through my phone. Instead I set myself daily tasks, which would help me work towards my goals.
A day could typically look like this:
Write an article
Contact brands
Work out
Work on your photoshop course
Create presets
Read
By ensuring that I had a list of things to do, I would actually do them, and thereby actively working towards something that’s important to me, instead of wasting my time watching Netflix all day. Obviously there was still plenty of time to watch Netflix in the evening.
Before I went to bed every night, I would make sure to have created a list with goals to be completed for the next day. In doing so, I ensured that I had something to wake up to.
Work out
To be honest, back home I’m not a huge fan of working out. However at least I go for a run or a walk almost on a daily basis. As I thought of how to spend a week in quarantine, I knew that I would miss being active. Therefor a brought an elastic band, which I could use for my exercises. Obviously it didn’t work out as well as having weights, but I was still able to do plenty of exercises, and enjoyed going to bed every night, and actually being exhausted.
Being able to work out, was also a great way to keep my head straight and focused. I’m not talking about doing huge exercises of two hours per day, however 30 minutes was enough for me, or even doing different exercises throughout the day worked as well.
Work on a new skill
Having seven days for yourself is a great time to start learning a new skill. Many of us have something in mind that we want to learn, but simply put it off because we are too busy. That could be learning a new language, learning to use photoshop or whatever. But simply having that time for yourself, is the best possible time to start. I know that you won’t be able to learn to speak Spanish fluently in a week, but at least you started the process.
Read
I know that watching Netflix is much more entertaining but reading a book will keep your mind much more active, and prevent you from being lazy throughout the day. When I thought about how to spend a week in quarantine, I knew that I had to get my hands on some new books. There are so many interesting books. Self help books, business, marketing, novels, crimes, adventure. All of them just waiting for you to read them. Set yourself a goal for how many books you want to read and simply do it. You will be amazed at how much you can actually read when you don’t have to do your everyday tasks.
Set goals for the year
Being in quarantine is a great time to find yourself. It is the perfect time to figure out what you want to accomplish, or work on throughout the rest of the year. When you are confined to your own thoughts for 24 hours a day without interactions with other people, you will start to focus on the things YOU want.
During my time in quarantine, it became clear to me, what I really wanted to spend my time doing. I sat down and made a list of 13 goals that I wanted to accomplish throughout the year. All goals that are within my power to achieve.
Allow yourself to relax
Everything I have previous said might suggest otherwise, but it is so important that you allow yourself some time to relax as well. I’m just saying not to do it for the entire day, every day of your quarantine. Many of us don’t have the time to relax properly during our everyday life, so being confined to a quarantine is the perfect time to do so for many.
Here you have it. An article on how to spend a week in quarantine. I hope you have found it helpful, and if you have more suggestions, I would love to hear!
