24 hours in Jaipur
In this post I will talk about how you can spend 24 hours in Jaipur. Many people visiting India will stay in the north and only travel between New Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. In that case, you might not have a lot of time to experience each place, and that’s why I have created this guide, on how to spend 24 hours in Jaipur. I have visited twice, and love this city. On my last visit, I actually did this exact itinerary, and had a great day. It is packed with my favorite things to do in the city, so be prepared for a busy day.
As I love photographing the places I visit, I almost always wake up before sunrise. If you only have 24 hours in Jaipur, I would suggest you to do the same. Finding a tuk tuk should be easy enough, however you can most likely also ask your hostel or hotel to find one for you. Make sure you book the driver for the entire day. To begin the day, I would suggest heading to Jal Mahal, also known as the water temple. This is one of the best places to experience the sunrise, and doing so with a chai in hand, makes it even better. Just be aware of the rats, as I saw quite a few. That made the morning a bit less enjoyable.
As the last colors on the sky disappear, head back to your tuk tuk and drive towards Amer fort. Instead of visiting the fort, first hike up to the wall on the opposite side. You can see my guide about it here. Once you have taken in the view from above the wall, hike down again and enter the fort. Make sure that you take in as much of the history as possible. The fort is really interesting, and you can easily spend an hour wandering around, taking everything in.
If you are into photography tell you driver to take you to Panna Meena Ka Kund. It is a beautiful step well, and is great for photography. You will most certainly also be able to see monkeys there. Just make sure not to feed them, and take care of all of your things.
You will probably have build up a big hunger, as you have had a very busy morning. I don’t have any particular place to recommend for food, however everything I had during my visit was incredible. Your driver will most certainly be able to recommend a great spot for you.
You can’t leave Jaipur without doing some shopping. You will find some amazing jewelry, scarves, souvenirs, spices - and saris for the girls here. Tell your driver to drive you inside of the pink city (the walled part) and wander around, looking for gems. There are tons of bazars and small shops, so you will almost definitely find something. If you are not into shopping, it is also just a nice place to wander around, and experience local life. You will be able to find lots of small local places for some lunch, and the food in most places is absolutely delicious.
To finish off your 24 hours in Jaipur, head to the monkey temple. Experiencing this in person is really interesting. At the bottom you can buy some snacks to feed the monkeys, however make sure to take care of your belongings and don’t agitate them. Furthermore, at the bottom you will be contacted by lots of locals, asking if you want a guide. You don’t need one. At the top of the temple, you have a great view of the city. Stay for sunset, and you might be in for a spectacle.
As you leave the monkey temple, you will most likely feel exhausted after what was a long day. Find a good place for dinner and enjoy the rest of your evening in Jaipur.
I hope you found this guide to 24 hours in Jaipur helpful. Other things to do in the city include, the city palace and Hawa Mahal among the most popular.
